Senior Citizens, The Best Cell Phones for Them

By Dwight Anderson

Today's older person doesn't, for the most part, like or wants anything to do with advanced technology, which includes the smart phone and cell phones in general. You'll find that there are some seniors that either already use, or would want a cell phone but by and large they purely don't want to get or care about the cell phone technology advancements. Keeping this in mind, it's a very beneficial thing for a senior to want a cell phone even if the cell phone that they have will work for nothing more than to have an outlet to 911 should an emergency happen. For the senior that is still active, driving, going out for walks and so forth, this is even more important. The cell phone goes everywhere that the land line can't.

You're going to find that all cell phone companies are going to offer you a variety of phone choices. The models of the cell phones are constantly changing. It's not completely cut and dry on which phone is going to make the best one for a senior, however, keeping that in mind there are still features that you should be looking for if you're looking to purchase a cell phone for an elderly parent or another senior in your life.

The most ideal cell phone will have a keypad in which the numbers are easy to ready. The phones that offer this large dialing display are going to be among the best. Also you need to make sure the phone offers volume options for turning it up louder or having a good speakerphone. If the senior you're purchasing for has hearing aids you need to make sure the phone is compatible with them.

When keeping the features in mind you want to make sure that you're getting something that is easy for them to use instead of the cell phones that are so popular today that give all of the features and applications. Most seniors aren't going to want to go near a smart phone. For the most part the senior that acquiesces or wants a cell phone just wants it to be able to place a call in an emergency no matter where they might be. The phone needs to be one that's easy to make calls. This means that all of the buttons need to be straightforward and simple for dialing, sending and ending calls. The more advanced phones simply aren't the style or the desire of the senior.

If the senior that you have in mind is only going to want a cell phone for emergencies and nothing else, the 911 cell phones are going to make a very good option. These phones are going to allow the user to access 911 in case there is an emergency. Some of these phones are purely for 911 dialing only. All cell phones no matter if they have service to them or not have to be able to dial 911.

The bottom line is that you know your senior better than anyone else so you'll know their needs better than anyone else. Find them a phone which is easy to use, has the features that they need with not having too many of the features that they don't need. Even the senior that is the most against using a cell phone will appreciate you and your thought and learn to appreciate they have an outlet if something bad should happen.
