The Pros Of Using Unlocked Smart Phones

Unlocked smart phones are a great way to ensure that you still have a high-end phone even if you decide to terminate your service with your current cell phone provider. The good thing about having a phone that's unlocked is that you're not trapped by a contract, a specific plan or even a carrier company that you just don't like maybe because they didn't live up to your expectations.

In most cases, your phone will stop working if you jump from one carrier to another, and they will use this to their advantage in retaining your business even if you don't want to continue. However, be aware of the mobile phone carriers in your state.

In some of the smaller towns of North Carolina for example, you won't have the cell phone carrier selection you have in a larger city. You want to be able to use your phone wherever you'd like to go. It could cause you additional stress on top of the discomfort of being moved from one state to another, if you discover your phone won't work in your new location.

It's clear that unlocked smart phones give you a distinct advantage, so why aren't people that interested in them? When you go into a store to pick up a phone, you'll see a vast difference in price on the phone without a contract.

Cell phone companies, quite naturally, entice customers into signing contracts by offering lower prices for the contract phones. This is a very powerful marketing tool that convinces customers to do business with the carrier for years to come. But if you get your locked phone with you and not sign a contract, the carrier will only expect you to jump when the going gets tough and move to the competitor.

It can cost an arm and a leg to buy a non-contract phone, because they usually sell for the entire retail price. This turns off customers just by seeing the huge price. But what they don't realize is that by taking that discounted locked phone and signing the contract, if the carrier decides to offer fewer features on the plan or even raise the cost of the plan, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Either way you lose if you decide to cancel your contract before it expires - early termination of contract would warrant a termination charge, and your phone would be a useless scrap of metal because since it is locked, you cannot use it with your new cell phone provider of choice. It's back to the drawing board as you start shopping around for a new phone.

There are many carriers who know the best way to keep a customer's business for many years isn't by forcing them to stay and they offer compatibility with unlocked smart phones. Make sure you get an unlocked smart phone once you're in the market for one - you'll end up with more freedom of choice than if you don't.
