Factors To Think About When Buying New Cell Phones

By Lynn Foster

Cell phones are not usually a cheap purchase but people do not always put enough consideration into their selection. There are a variety of factors that should be looked at when buying or changing phones or plans to ensure that it can meet needs.

The person the phone will be used by is an important consideration. People who are elderly may not be able to handle a fancy phone so need something that has a big screen and keys, is straight-forward and is easy to learn. Young adults on the other hand, are interested in gadgets and want to have phones that are versatile and trendy. People who like being first to try something new will want as many different technologies and abilities on their phone as possible.

One thing to consider is how a phone is going to be used by the consumer and how the different features play a role in that. Someone who is going to play video games will want a device that has a quality screen. Photographers will want a decent camera and editing software.

The type of plan available for a phone is also a consideration especially when looking at rate of speed and the limits on data usage. Some companies throttle their phones by reducing the speed when too much data has been used. If a user intends to watch a lot of videos, listen to music or play video games they will want to make sure their plan is both fast and unlimited.

How widespread phone coverage is for each company is also a factor to be considered. Cell service tends to be spotty in the country or more rural areas while there tends to be good coverage in urban communities. If someone travels a lot they need to look at coverage both in their home community and also in the places they travel to most frequently. Usage inside and outside of buildings is also an issue to explore.

Individuals who plan to use their phone for email or who send a lot of texts will want to make sure that they are comfortable with the keyboard that comes with their phone. Touch screen keyboards are fairly easy to use and can usually be adjusted horizontally and vertically. Keyboards at the bottom of phones are usually numeric and can be confusing for some people. A typical typewriter-style keyboard is often available to slide out from a phone.

Price is only one factor of purchasing cell phones. Investing in a quality phone does not have to be expensive. It is more important to ensure that the phone suits the lifestyle of the person buying it. Spend some time trying out a new phone before purchasing it.
