Parental Monitoring for Android Smart Phones

By Jeff Monson

Attention concerned parents! There is a new Android spy app that is perfect for parents that need to monitor the cell phone activity of their child. It is also useful for an employer that wants to monitor the activity of their business-issued cell phones or track the location of their employees, delivery vehicles, find lost cell phones, etc. The app captures all incoming and outgoing SMS text messages, call logs, and real time GPS locations. It then sends, at predetermined intervals, this information to your Gmail account.

The e-mail report provides you with the following information:

GPS Data: The e-mail report gives you GPS location data (latitude and longitude) of the monitored phone. If GPS is unavailable for any reason at that particular point in time, it will revert to GSM location data until GPS is available. GSM location data is not as accurate as GPS, but it will provide a general location until GPS becomes available.

GPS History: When configuring the application, you can set a time frame (every 30 minutes, every hour, 2 hours, etc) that you want it to save a snapshot of GPS locations. Saving a snapshot every hour will give you a good idea of where the phone has been throughout any given day.

SMS History: The report provides you a log of all incoming and outgoing SMS text messages. The information included is type of text message (incoming or outgoing), date, time, the actual message, and the phone number it was sent to or from. If the number is in the target phone contacts, it will also include the name that the number is registered under in the contacts.

Voice Call History: The report also provides you a log of all incoming and outgoing voice calls, to include type of call (incoming or outgoing), phone number, name (if in target phone contacts), date, time, and duration of the call.

The application does have to be installed on the target phone, and the instructions show you how to hide the icon to make it invisible on the target phone. It then sends the information in the form of a report to any Gmail account that you specify, at time intervals that you specify. I recommend setting up a dedicated Gmail account just for Cell Phone Spy. It allows you to specify at what intervals (every 4 hours, every 12 hours, every 24 hours, etc) that it sends the report to you. Once every 24 hours is a good idea so as not to cause any overages on your cellular data plan. You can also send covert text messages to the target phone (unbeknownst to the target phone user) to have your report or a real-time GPS location sent to you on demand.
