VAC of America phone service is a fully automated inmate calling service provided for large jails and correctional institutes by Value Added Communications through Focus 100. The called party is provided with information like the call type, inmate's name, call charges, originating facility, option of denying any calls. They have a very user-friendly voice prompt which guides the inmate and the called party throughout the call. The name of the inmate is stored by PIN and it is used to playback during the initial greeting of the call.

VAC of America phone service has unique recordings and search abilities and improves the safety aspect of facilities. They also allow an increase of the facility revenue by allowing calls to previously unbillable numbers. All recorded calls can be easily located. Even an attorney privilege feature is present which prevents the recording of any protected calls.

Offenders at the Louisiana facility are offered a reasonable amount of access to telephone communication. They can make collect calls but these are usually limited to 15 minutes. No one can make a call to an offender telephone. The called party is informed that it is a collect call from an offender with the name of the state prison facility and the called party can accept or hang up on the call.

Inmates can use Tel-link for collect calls on cell phone in Louisiana facilities, to call their near and dear ones from the Louisiana Department of Correctional Institutions. Through Tel-link, the offender can call certain cell phone numbers if they are permitted by the authorities with certain conditions. The family is able to create an account for collect calls with Global Tel-link by providing details of their address, but prepaid cell phone numbers cannot be called by the inmate.

The family or friend can also create an account with Tel-Link for collect calls on cell phone in Louisiana. For this they need to create an account with their cell phone number and then the inmate can call them if this number is featured in the approved list of the jail authorities. The call rates are fixed but it can be lowered if mandated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission or Federal Communications Commission. The inmate call hours are usually in the evening, night and during weekends.
